From the
New Caucus
SERIOUS TIMES
REQUIRE A SERIOUS DECISION
If you have not already voted in the PSC elections, please take a
moment to consider why your vote is important.
Programs, jobs and the education of our students are all at stake.
The context for CUNY budgets is the worst economic meltdown since
the depression. Community Colleges face $43.6 million in proposed
cutbacks. Senior College budgets will be under pressure as state
revenues continue to decline.
WHAT KIND OF LEADERSHIP DO WE NEED IN
THIS CRISIS?
The Right Choice: PSC New Caucus leaders have a
full-fledged political action campaign underway to turn back
threatened cuts. With your help, we will succeed this year as we
have done in the past.
The
New Caucus leadership of the PSC has a tangible record, building
coalitions in Albany and at City Hall that have:
- Increased
Community and Senior College budgets.
- Defeated or
ameliorated mid-year cuts.
- Saved jobs!
When the governor proposed freezing our wage increase (due in
October), we mobilized immediately and defeated his proposal.
The Wrong Choice: CUNY Alliance (CA) wants to lead
this union, but it has said nothing about the budget crisis we face,
has offered no plans to deal with this crisis, and has not
participated in the union’s budget advocacy for CUNY. With jobs at
stake, CA has remained silent! Why? Perhaps because its
presidential candidate, Fred Brodzinski, is a committed Republican
Party activist who advocates “limited” government. That means
"limited" public investments in CUNY and job insecurity.
