The Upside Down
World According
Who ran on a “Faculty First” slate? In the world according to Fred Brodzinski, it’s the New Caucus that puts faculty first. That’s strange coming from someone who two years ago actually put together and ran on a “Faculty First” slate at CCNY. A year later, when he ran for President of the PSC, Brodzinski identified himself as a faculty member, even though he is a full-time HEO. Which slate is representative of HEOs? In the world according to Fred Brodzinski, it’s his slate. In one of their latest email missive, he proclaims “we are HEOs United, a group of HEOs representing a wide spectrum of HEO job titles.” What’s interesting is what he leaves out – that all the candidates on his slate are from one campus, save one. Is that the face of HEOs at CUNY’s twenty campuses? Compare that with the New Caucus -- representing HEOs across titles and across all twenty CUNY campuses. Is it really a drawback for a HEO chapter chair to represent HEO interests on the negotiating team and PSC Executive Council? In the world according to Fred Brodzinski, this would diminish Iris DeLutro’s ability to represent the interests of HEOs. Is he kidding? Does he think that having a principled, energetic voice for HEOs on these key bodies weakens rather than strengthens the ability of chapter chair to represent HEO interests? By the way, there are several chapter chairs who sit on the PSC Executive Council – and they are consistently and overwhelmingly reelected to their positions.Iris DeLutro is a treasure – a smart, energetic and consistent advocate for HEOs, empathetic to the needs of her colleagues, highly visible and accessible in her many visits to all CUNY campuses and tested as a leader. What’s more she is proud to be a HEO – and does not pretend to be anything else. The New Caucus is a highly diverse slate comprised of activists who have consistently fought for HEO needs – and have a record of accomplishment to show for it. Vote for the New Caucus slate! |
